I read that the use of smileys can have a negative effect on the conversation you have with a girl. I guess an excessive use of smileys send out signals that your are not capable of expressing yourself with words, which hence is a sign of stupidity. Or what does the Overlord Pimp has to say about this?

In my opinion smileys are all good as long as you don't over use them and put them at the end of every sentence:)

Smiley gives more meaning to the dialog and defines tone. Like if you want to have a more naught/dirty tone than the smiley with the tongue out a given:P

I would say it like this: If you put some effort behind your writing and produce quality rather then quantity smileys simply are not needed... And yes, it is a sign of intelligence to do so. However, if you don't have those skills using smileys is better then beeing missunderstood.

My experience is that even girls that use a lot of smileys themselfes get impressed by a man who doesn't have to use them to make it clear if he is joking or not.

Also it is a way to stick out and be special, most people do use to many smileys in their comunication in my opinion.
